Catholics held a vigil at the statue of Saint Louis which has rather inexplicably been targeted by protesters, apparently off some demented tangent to the black lives matter riots targeting him out of anti-Catholic bigotry directed at a grievance against him fighting in the 7th and 8th crusades. I'm sure these joggers are fully versed in the historical basis for why the Khwarezmians took Jerusalem after becoming refugees when their empire was razed by the advancing Golden Horde after killing Genghis Khan's diplomats, yet the Catholic masses in Europe didn't actually care about Jerusalem by that point due to the previous 6 crusades and instead marched against Cairo after Louis attributed his miraculous recovery to divine intervention and swore to serve a holy cause. Which he lost at Al Mansurah, was captured and ransomed after a vow not to return to Egypt, cementing the legitimacy of the Mamluks and dividing the Mediterranean Basin.

according to similar media sources, the 1860s was “largely peaceful” in America since the Civil War spanned 4 years out of the decade
