If Ukraine can hold off the impending major offense by the Russians, and the frontline freezes at roughly its current position in the aftermath, then the vast majority of Ukraine will have won its sovereignty and freedom. I actually agree with you that the idea of Ukraine dislodging Russia from the entire Donbass looks daunting at the moment, to put it mildly. Still, limiting Russian gains to what they currently control (which isn't that much more than what they controlled before Feb 24) would be a strategic win for Ukraine.
So to answer your question: what all the Western support has gotten Ukraine is a fighting chance. The coming weeks will tell us wether this chance will be seized, squandered, or turn out to have been a mirage all along.
The media is fixated on the next coming weeks, as if it's certain they will go all in. Maybe but maybe not. They could just continue the same style of slow grind that we've seen in the last 4-5 months with slowly taking territory, i mean it's been kind of working tbh. If that's the case you may not get this climactic inflection point, then what? Back to the slow drip of sending them billions every few weeks to just hang on?
