if the Ukrainian lobbying is the 'russian end of the probe', then Podesta / Weber would be wrapped up in it.
but it has dick-all to do with "russian interference in the 2016 election", something we can say with a lot more certainty now that Mueller has presented his evidence at trial and makes no such allegation

It’s not just lobbying, but failing to register as a foreign lobbyist and financial crimes. And there was a report a day or two ago about mueller investigating one of the Podestas.

The Ukraine lobbying piece could be part of the puzzle linking Manafort to Russian oligarchs and/or Russian intelligence people. Podesta and Weber wouldn't be relevant because they weren't part of the conspiracy.

It's also obviously a point of leverage to get him to spill the beans on this possible conspiracy.

Them why is he on trial for this crime with no such evidence presented? Mueller would be immunizing him with double jeopardy. If there was a russian-election link in the ukraine lobbying, Mueller wouldnt be bringing him to trial until endgame, and it would be counterproductive as leverage. And Podesta and Weber would certainly be material to it because the ukraine stuff was a joint lobbying venture

I suspect that one. Once IceMage removed his Mueller avatar, I knew it was over

Huh? Double jeopardy is charging someone for the same offense twice. If Manafort's Ukraine lobbying is the reason for his connections to Russian oligarchs and Russian intelligence, if it's related to Manafort trying to "make right" with powerful Russians, that's relevant to an alleged conspiracy. He wouldn't be charged with the same crimes again.

When you say "if there was a russian-election link in the ukraine lobbying", what do you mean exactly? The lobbying took place before the Trump campaign started.

I'm guessing Goom maybe meant "with prejudice".

Ghot, could you explain to us what this story implies?

I don't think he realizes that the invoices were faked by manafort to hide his offshore money. Invoices that were stamped by a bank that was previously indicted for money laundering. Representatives of the companies involved in the invoices were the ones testifying that they were fake. Kind of blows a giant hole in the defense's attempt to pin it all on gates.

so uh, why is Mueller's team prosecuting Manafort for FARA violations and tax evasion related to the exact same ukrainian lobbying as Podesta / Vin Weber / other guy

I don't think Manafort's legal woes have much of anything to do with the 2016 election. I think Mueller's plan is to prosecute Manafort and then use that leverage to flip him for more information on the Trump campaign.

It's the same thing with the Stormy Daniels stuff. Mueller used that as probable cause to help the feds raid Cohen's office. The Special Counsel is almost certainly going to find some dirt on Trump now, but I think their powers are much too broad.

Why? Crimes are crimes.
