tbh the eu still uses russian gas, it just gets sold to someone else first.

That's true for Russian oil, but not so much for their natural gas.

Side note: it's infuriating that American English is using the term "gas" for the fuel of our cars. Makes it super tedious to distinguish between gas(oline) prices and (natural) gas prices.

China is a buyer of Russian LNG, during the last lockdown China didn't need much and sold that Russian LNG to EU at inflated prices making huge profits...
