I'm really confused why the US is going around to pretty much the whole globe trying to collect weapons for Ukraine. You would think we would have more than enough to give.
South America, Israel, South Korea and many others.
It's either one of the two things.
1. It's a litmus test to 'prove' you're team west.
2. NATO countries are really being drained empty of armaments and at this point outside of supplying high end things, we have to crowd-source a lot of things for Ukraine
I think generally it's better to spend other peoples money/weapons if you can, the US could probably send everything Ukraine needs, but if they are looking at a conflict with China in the near future, which might include proxy war scenarios than I think it's smart of them to not be too quick to send the whole armory. Also, when the China situation pops off I think the international community will be less united in opposition than they are to Russia, so the US may have less foreign aid to count on.
Another aspect might be that a lot of what is being sent to Ukraine is destined to be replaced at some point, could be that those replacements will be coming from US defense companies or arms deals of some sort. No source, just spit balling.
The crowdsourcing angle makes sense IMO, especially if you consider some of the logistical hurdles facing Ukraine with the mix of western/Soviet arms they have received.
