The longer this drags out, the more I become convinced Russia is a paper tiger. Like for real, intelligence analysts think Russia could be short on ammunition in 10 days. Poland also fields Leopard II tanks, which (as YOU should know) are elite armor units.
Poland has to have the fear that "they're next." Since they aren't a nuclear power, they can "get away with" entering the fight with conventional arms, while still being protected on their home turf from retaliation by being in NATO.
And I think it's looking less likely that Poland got involved overnight (though I consider it a real possibility), and more likely that there was an attempted coup.
Yes, there definitely is a ratonale for Poland sending troops to Ukraine's aid in a
defensive mission. If Poland sends, say, 50% of its forces to Ukraine, that could easily tip the war, given how weak and inept the Russians are looking. Like you said, this is turning into an embarrasment for them with each passing day.
I just really don't think they would go on the
offense on Russian or Russia-allied (Belarus) territory. But this point is moot anyway, the explosions were probably sabotage or an attempted coup.
