If I get sick (flu/covid/w.e) I try to reduce contact with other people. If I absolutely have to, I wear a mask out of respect. Does that make me a covidiot?

Let me guess, 50 cents mask vs 0.01 micron virus. Yes.

Not clear what you are trying to compare.

yes, yes it does, because the mask doesn't do anything

"out of respect" can be translated here to affirming and changing your behaviour to satisfy somebody else's delusions, which shouldn't be done.

When you have guests visit your home, do you dress up accordingly or receive them in trousers/underdress?

I think adapting your behavior according to the situation is not as bad as you make it seem.

Your analogy is beyond invalid - dressing nicely enough for guests has nothing to do with going along with someone's delusion.

Adapting behaviour to a situation is not bad in general, right. Except here you are using a euphemism "situation" instead of saying what it is, a delusion.

Wrong, manners was precisely my point.

Putting aside whether wearing a mask while being sick has any effect.
Manners go a long way. It may seem a delusion to you, but it may not to others. Certain situations (wearing a mask while being sick for example) is harmless and require little effort. I believe slightly modifying my behavior with the aim of ensuring respect is worth it in this case. Who knows what idea I may hold which may seem ridiculous/delusional to other people. Yet I would expect to be treated with the same level of respect regardless of whether they deem it as such. We can then have a civil discussion on whether the ideas I hold are delusional. But I think that is the basis of a civil society - it starts with manners. Respect.

Now I don't believe you should go way out of your way to be respectful - that's why I ask if for this effortless instance, it was outrageous to slightly modify your behaviour?

As you have described, the mask is an amulet. No different than old Pagan practices of wearing odd things on your body to keep the sickness away.

It may seem "respectful" to you in a sense to wear the amulet in the presence of fellow cultists.

'covidiots' appropiated the use of masks it seems. Unless you would like to elaborate what qualifies as cultists. I don't agree that wearing a mask out of respect makes you one.

Moreover the topic of respect/altering your behaviours due to perceived delusion..

Say you're having your relatives over for a feast. You also happen to know your niece, who is attending, has a vegan diet. Do you adjust your menu and include a dish for her?

As I said, we can have a civil conversation (my niece and I) on whether the idea/her practice is silly (Hell i've met reasonable vegans in the past who would reciprocate the respect). But would this harmless action (preparing a unique meal for her), justify me ruining her mood and company in this event? Seems like an easy choice. But I want to understand how manners in this situation (altering my behaviour due to perceived lunacy), warranted me being labeled in the same way a cultist (covidiot) is?
