sec i will get my Idiot-Translator (also known as IT)
Ferdia - Hey IT : what is Atomic Heart and what is ^MSX98 talking about?
IT: The post above by ^MSX98 relates to the game Atomic Heart, a game developed in Cyprus (which btw is not a part of Russia). As the storyline takes place in the Soviet Union, or rather, the company has not mentioned the Ukraine War, ^MSX98 and others like him/her/it believes everyone should boycott the game. This is moronic but feeds into the narrative of all things about Russia are bad, even if not made in Russia/Soviet Union.
talk about petty. It is posts like the above that can cripple a company when masses of opinionated people with little regard for common sense band together against some perceived, or invented, slight, to fit their narrative. This is not a new movement we have seen this countless times in the past and we will see it again in the future.
if the storyline was based in any other country we would not see this attack against this company. I mean there are countless FPS games with story lines based in Russia and elsewhere, should they all get this hate thrown at them as well? lets boycott Call of Duty ok, because we dont like Iran, right ???
This is not based on fact and totally moronic :
https://i.imgur.com/tuL07CT.jpgI think the sticking point for these people is this part:
"While Mundfish's headquarters are in Cyprus, the company is Russian, and is understood to be linked to companies that have received sanctions as a result of the invasion of Ukraine."
While I don't agree, I think from their perspective that reads as "sneaky Russian company sidesteps sanctions"
Add to that the fact the game has a setting where the Soviet Union defeated the Nazis early and the mental connection people will make between that and Putin (who they view as rebuilding the Soviet Union) supposedly ousting nazis from Ukraine.
Unless they have a huge Russian market for their games they would have been better off just saying "Russia bad" and being done with it IMO.
