The idea was that people, for the most part would trade political freedom for a personal gain it had nothing to do with dictatorships or not.

Also a dictatorship isn´t a good metric for incarceration rates, prison/crime has more to do with tradition/values and socio-economical gaps.

I don´t really see it that way, because really war is inevitable in Asia. When a new power-dynamic arises (which already has) and hasn´t taken hold there will be conflicts and these are likely to delve into military in nature.

But still I am optimistic and I think Asia is going somewhere very prosperous, on the long term (not so much mid-term).

I don't think it works like this, you are talking about the whole freedom of speech, freedom of press, and alot of derivated "freedoms" (even art, music)
If you are looking for some security you will enjoy these towns with thousands cameras doing facial recognition everywhere 24/7.

As a free option you will be, in some cases, forced to hang a portrait of the supreme leader or even to smile or applaud against your will.
And I pass over the inequality of rights and social mobility. Not all will live in an historically strategic port....

I didn't say Chinese people are oppressed. Although Uyghurs are repressed. And the CCP is aggressive in repressing descent; or restricting personal and political freedom.
Ergo oppressive.

Uighur conflict is pretty complicated, as are all insurgencies, to pretend that there hasn´t been extensive aggression against the Chinese people/gov by Uighur would be disingenuous. It is the reason why I never mention Afghanistan whenever I talk about US decisions, because on a personal level (whatever that is worth) I think the invasion of Afghanistan was legitimate (morally speaking).

The Chinese have managed to completely eradicate the insurgency movements, which i think is commendable. The extent of damage done to achieve it could be up for debate tho

In regards to the Uyghurs. There are the separatists and the normal ones.
Yes the Chinese Government fuck the separatists over. You will find it rather difficult to deal with Isis led separatists. They are predominately Extreme Muslims. Although I can say the CCP over did it.

The CCP will take second place as compared to Singapore when it comes to personal freedom and political freedom.

US/Europe were happy with communist china until it grew to large and could become an adversary.
US/Europe are happy with Singapore because they serve their interests and want to hedge them against the Chinese.
