Why isn't there any sort of intervention between police kill citizens with impunity and disbanding the entire police force lol.

huh? the Minneapolis government is listening to the requests of the citizens, one of which is to defund the police. not sure how this is an issue by any means. I for one welcome the local government listening to the people who voted for them.

It's such an American reaction.

Idk I think its a good thing. System is broke, stop putting tape on it. Remake it from the ground up.

Police handle literally everything from traffic infractions to handling deranged people to getting into shootouts with cults.
No one person is equipped for that shit and then when the system fails everyone goes but at all the chaos that will take place if we dismantle them!

Why are police handling such a broad array of societal issues anyways? They aren't a fix all, and they definitely shouldn't be if they're going to be packing heat and unhinged as fuck.

Using outside agencies while replacing them, hopefully with a system that actually makes a lick of sense will if nothing else be a nice experiment.

Because of the structure of unions and the bias that he criminal justice system has when asked to prosecute its own members.

You can't just change certain pieces or work on the problem a little at a time. You had to rebuild from scratch.

Ain't no multilayered about it. You take away the police (as Ilhan Omar is asking for) will destroy that city.

If folks want to spend more on education, social services et al., that's fine. There's no need to defund the police to do so. As I said before, you turn the police into a politically correct bunch of soyboi emasculates, you might as well just hand the country over to the crooks.

It's pretty obvious that the left has gone bat shyt crazy.

As it currently stands, if/when someone sees someone who is homeless, in a mental health crisis, or high on substances, they often will call the police (if they call anyone) to try and take care of it.

However, the police are not trained, educated, or resourced as mental health/social services providers. So, this often results in the police either arresting people or simply making them move somewhere else. There's too much that we currently leave for the police to handle, and re-appropriating those funds not only to social services, but to social services who would then handle some of these responsibilities instead of the police, is as at the heart of 'defunding the police'.

Yeah, but the logistics is really tough. Those OTHER people you want to be able to respond, would have to be available on 911, and you would need to train the 911 people, to know WHO to send.

Cutting down on some police tasks to give it to psychologists/social workers etc is probably a good idea on the substance. From a partisan lens, it's still a massive win for Democrats: government funding is cut from one of the few conservative-leaning state-employed professions while a lot of additional jobs for liberal-leaning professions are created on public payroll.

Yeah, like, somebody having a medical crisis can't be expected to get help from 911. What do you think? That we can just hook the 911 caller up with the ability to dispatch medical aid? What kind of system would that be!

Sheriffs from 1989. I'd recommend watching the whole thing, because it's really interesting. A lot of the things the sheriffs were saying in 1989 are still relevant today. One in particular says police are doing too much, that because of the (Regan era) cuts to health and social funding it has all fallen on the police who are not trained to deal with the problems.

I also recommend subscribing to David Hoffman. I love his channel.
