You can definitely bring up SCOTUS. Just mention how every president has gotten to appoint at least one since Carter. But yea, a Democratic president will still yield a 5-4 conservative majority. A Republican one might yield a 7-2.

And that's the thing: if Republican and Democratic presidents continue to take turns in the White House, then the Democrats might never be able to fully "catch up" to the conservative 7-2 majority. Trump being reelected in 2020 might very well entrench a conservative majority on the Supreme Court for the next 16-24 years.

Klobuchar dropping out right before Super Tuesday and then insta-endorsing Biden all but confirms that the DNC has decided to coalesce around Biden. I'm getting some serious 2016 vibes about all this over the past 2 days. Democratic division will likely continue this election cycle, and it might even be worse if there is a contested convention.

Prediction: Sanders ends up with the most delegates but not a majority. It's a contested convention, the DNC picks Biden, and a Democratic bloodbath ensues. Trump beats Biden handily in the 2020 election, further radicalizing the left. AOC takes over as the face and leader of the party in the messy afermath and later becomes the DNC nominee in the 2024 election.

mostly agree. the "bloodbath" might not be a major fallout on the national stage, i'm sure bernie is realistic enough to realise that biden is still the lesser evil compared to trump, but it will be a surefire way to hand trump the election, because a majority of voters are not that smart, and will understandably be pissed off.
the thing is, i'm sure even the out of touch idiots in the DNC are well aware of this, but they will do it anyway - because trump, despite his messaging, is still the preferable option to them - he's been great to the establishment, the donor class, and the washington elite in everything but rhetoric.

I really wonder if/how they will make RBG a talking point during the general campaign. Given her age and health situation, it's crystal clear that she wont survive for another almost 5 years, but bringing this point up as an argument why everyone must vote blue... a public campaign just cant do that, it's really morbid and tasteless.

Democrats won't make the Supreme Court a selling point for them. It will be all about removing Trump from office, especially if Biden is the nominee. It's all Dems can really focus on and a candidate like Biden will be able to offer, and it will be one of the many reasons of their undoing.

And that's pretty much it. If Sanders is the nominee, there will at least be talk about healthcare reform, wage reform, and student debt. But it will mostly be all about Trump with him, too.

I'm a SCOTUS voter myself, but you're right about the RBG situation being too morbid to make as a primary selling point.

i think there's grey area. obviously "RBG is on deaths door" is bad, but they can be sneaky with "we can't allow the chance that this president get's to nominate 3 SCOTUS judges, 2 is already enough".

i dont see it as a platform pillar, but there's a lot of times they need to buy time and think on stage (debate or in speeches) and i'd guess they say shit like that here and there.

SCOTUS judges are like road construction, nothing that sways a large percent of voters but its effects us all enough that they sneak it in on the periphery.

this. i don't think it's necessary to spell it out in a crass or disrespectful manner. i'd assume that a reasonable percentage of voters are roughly familiar with the situation on the supreme court, and through the drama around merrick garland and rapey kavanaugh aware of the impact a president's pick has...

Adding to this if they toss in a dash of "we need to protect a woman's right to her own body" it offsets the bitter flavor of "RBG looks like she's about done".

Trump nomination of a woman for the Supreme Court would lead to the (D)s not wanting to protect that woman’s rights to her own body

And after an awkward ~32 hour delay

Elizabeth Warren is off the island
