it (“impeachment”) was so ‘pertinent and important to the survival of the republic’ that she took another taxpayer-funded 3 week vacation before completion of the proceedings

So it's officially over (impeachment), right?

I mean what makes this especially dumb is that the standoff was entirely contrived and artificial and she created it out of nothing. And then blinked anyway. Its raising some progressive murmurs that Nancys real plan is to get Sanders and Warren off the campaign trail during the most critical stretch before the primaries while Biden is free to blitz in Iowa. And being present for a failed impeachment trial against Trump won't help the progressives.

I dont understand what the face value of the gimmick was supposed to be. The very second I read Pelosi was planning a trick to hold back the articles, my first reaction was "Yea and McConnell can act in kind". And he did, and DiFi withdrew support and now Pelosi crumbled. I don't believe that this was so poorly thought through and aimless that they couldn't predict an outcome it took me 5 seconds to realize. There had to be some other motive.

It reminds me of Trump's government shutdown over his wall funding, where he entered a standoff with no plan and leverage at all. Difference being that Pelosi, unlike Trump, is far too shrewd to commit such a monumental strategic blunder.

It bought some time for those FOIA emails to be released.

Bolton

According to the testimony of his former assistant Fiona Hill, Bolton had notably slammed the door of a meeting, indicating that he did not want to take part in a “scheme”, and compared the lawyer of Donald Trump, Rudy Giuliani, sent to Ukraine to search compromising information about Joe Biden, from "pomegranate would blow everyone up." John Bolton "has relevant information," his lawyer recently said, without giving further details. Surprises are not excluded.

Uhh... the Senate leader basically admitted that he's coordinating with the White House on the impeachment trial. It's completely ridiculous that he would do so, and even more insane that he would admit it publicly. So Nancy didn't create this out of nothing... she has legitimate reasons to press McConnell, although she doesn't really have much leverage. I don't know, maybe Nancy is just trolling. Trump and Republicans seem to be upset that the articles aren't being sent. And a month from now nobody will even remember or care that they were held up.

with warren and sanders having to be present in washington during the senate trial, and the iowa and new hampshire primaries coming up, there might be more behind the decision than just 'trolling' trump. it will obviously benefit the likes of biden and buttigieg significantly in those states.

i totally agree with you that mcconnell's absolutely outrageous (though very much expected) decision, to coordinate with trump, deserves more attention. he is now publicly on record about violating his oath of office, but even pelosi is not stupid enough to expect that she could do anything about it. this is very much the establishment trying to screw over progressives yet again.

The ruling body literally admitted to collaborating with the individuals on trial. Pelosi has right to pause and consider her next move.

The Senate has gone out of their way to state they would not do their duty or be objective.
