I haven't read about any others yet, been stuck in the NED rabbit hole for awhile but that makes sense from the little I know about US policy towards China
1. So the US essentially just took the UKs spot in HK because it was already predisposed to be a western bastion due to the legal system / language implemented by the British?
2. Is public sentiment towards the US involvement in Asia generally favorable where you live? Or is it seen more as the lesser of two evils compared to China? I think you said you were from Taiwan right?
1. Yes
2. In terms of Hong Kong, there are tthree groups of people who are favorable to US involvement.
a. The older that have escaped from the cultural revolution and the famine and those that have their properties confiscated by the communist during that period.
b. Younger internet savy generation who worship Hollywood and watch Youtube all day , Twitter all day, accessing to information which are not China friendly
c. Please note , there is at least 1 to 2% of HK population who refuse to travel to China to visit due to personal family trauma during the cultural revolution period which was horrible.
Those who are not favorable to US involvement.
a. The literati class who live to see the Chinese transformation.
b. The business class.
c. Those that have traveled to China during the 2000s and saw her transformation in the 2010 +++
No I am not from Taiwan.
At the end of the day do
Hong Kong people hate or dislike the Mainland Chinese?
Ans : Yes
Similar to this below.
Shanghainese hates
Cantonese hates Beijingnese etc etc .
A lot of Cantonese or Shanghainese won't say they are from China, rather they will say I am from Shanghai or I am from Canton.
And the Shanghainese have certain extreme dislike for people from Tier 3 or 4 cities.
The same reason why New Yorkers dislike some states or visitors from poorer countries..
