They arrived at 4:35 for a 4:45 meeting and 911 (!!) was called at 4:37. LOL.
Why would they meet inside Starbucks to go somewhere else and not order anything lol? It's possibly the intended on having the meeting there without ordering but who knows?
Btw
Maybe next time better to ask them if they intend on ordering anything before calling 91-fucking-1 lmao.
Also btw the manager was fired and the police commissioner went back on his original statement.
firstly, when planning my wedding we had multiple people that wanted to do meetings at starbucks. none of them ever ordered anything. one guy was there so often he sweet talked a server girl into making a drink for him out of all free components. water with ice and some of the fruit they add to stuff. its really common by me anyways for people to take advantage of the free wifi and cushy chairs if they have time to kill.
i'm glad the manager got fired, she's for sure at fault for escalating it. i just find it hard to believe she plainly asked them to leave without first asking if they'd order anything. "get out" seems a lot less likely than "you need to order something if you're going to stay here (waits for answer) ok then i need to ask you to leave." which then clearly escalated to a 911 call too soon, and an arrest that shouldn't have happened.
my main point is that racial bias may be less at play than a particularly bitchy manager, potentially on a bitchy day, with above average stubbornness customers.
I believe one report said the manager let them know cops were getting called to remove them, presumably this was their easy as fuck out. either order then or leave. they chose to sit and get arrested, and not order anything.
another point is they've surely had people removed from that location for loitering given the homeless population. so they have a procedure for it, even if it's being applied to the wrong people. i think a large part of the narrative for racial bias rests on the speed this all happened, if its routine procedure that's less noteworthy.
