The opposition party in a way is similar to the current party.

Opposition is KMT and the Current party is DPP.

The KMT wants to keep the status quo. The DPP are outwardly showing they want independence but they don't exactly want war.
Both are not in favour of reuniting , although the KMT is looking towards a more non confrontational relationship with China.

I think we might be reaching a point where the US will use the Taiwan card sooner than later. But we will see.

If you want I can explain China and Taiwan in a very American sense.

And in regards to their military capability I can explain it in a very layman Rock Band kind of manner. :rofl:

Ukraine? You would just be giving them time to rearm with minsk 3 4 5 6 and all the way to minsk 951, or another istanbul accords. Ukranians have proved they are incapable of conducting diplomacy.

As long as Donetsk isn't resolved it would only lead to another war a year or two later. I would view it as Russian surrender if they made any "peace-deal" currently.

If we look at the current Ukraine / Russia conflict , it is like having Metallica and AC/DC in a fierce fight.

If we look at Taiwan / China , it is similar to pitting Slayer against Justin Bieber and One Direction
So what the Americans want to do now is to train Taiwan to a level to maybe Nickelback so the Taiwanese will at least have a chance to 'fight' back.
And they need at least 5 to 8 years to get Taiwan to that level.

I am not sure if I make sense.......
