But if that was the case, then the core argument is affirmed, isn't it? If both events had comparable levels of violence, property damage and disruption of the public order once we normalize them on a per-day basis, then there would indeed be a massive double standard in how the media and Democrats treat the two events...
The crux is that Democrats consider the cause and the thrust of the BLM riots to be justied while they consider the cause and thrust of Jan 6th as illegitimate. Vice versa for the hard core of Trump supporters; with normies and mainstream Republicans being ashamed and critical of both. They of course still try to sweep Jan 6 under the rug out of cynical political calculus, just like Democrats in 2020 spurred on the BLM protests and looked the other way at the violence and property damage out of cynical political calculus (high black voter energy/turnout, plus unrest under Trump's watch).
One is outrage and property damage most people dont agree with, even democrats, but some fan the flames to try and boost votes and hope it doesnt come to their city. Burning BLM cities do not have as widespread support as the GOP pretends it does. and the goal is to get a cop charged for murder.
One was a run on the electoral vote certification to try and stop the legitimately voted in president from taking office.
context matters, one is stupid property damage, one is an insurrection. an ineffectual and pointless insurrection, it never had a chance of working, but one none the less.
