It's called Realpolitik. If North Korea gave up it's nukes they could commit atrocities just short of genocide and it would still be a win. Everyone, your country included, would turn the other way.

Let me translate it into broken English so that you understand:

A petite victory is still a win even if North Korea do the bad acts badder than fart right Donald Trump. France not win much because not very muscle but even a dirty croissant is delicious.

NK is our excuse to keep our military in range to contain China. Absent that, China will "expand" its borders. Kim has already made a deal with them.
