tbh, i couldn't care less if that bumbling buffoon gets some ill-deserved praise for it (he already claims full credit despite no concrete outcomes yet), IF this means significant improvement for the lives of millions of north (and south) koreans, a lasting denuclearisation of the korean peninsula, as well as a normalisation of diplomatic relations.

the chances of a real success might be rather slim, and the expected concessions to a ruthless dictator might be painful (although this OFC will be justifiable and a 'yuuuge success', and not 'the worst deal ever'), but i'm really hoping this time it'll work...

South Korea says it wants U.S. troops to stay regardless of any treaty with North Korea

SEOUL (Reuters) - South Korea said on Wednesday the issue of U.S. troops stationed in the South is unrelated to any future peace treaty with North Korea and that American forces should stay even if such an agreement is signed.

Bet NK and/or China, aren't gonna like that.

My money is still on NK not following through with any of their promises.

When I was told about NK agreeing to give up nukes my first response was "I'll believe it when I see it". I doubt they are going to let the U.N. do the inspections like Iran did.

They've already agreed to let others choose who gets to inspect their nuclear facilities. I'm starting to believe this is actually a larger play by China to get the U.S. forces off the peninsula, and I could imagine that is what Kim's first state visit to China was all about.

At this point it's speculation, but I won't be surprised if we hear more out of that state visit. It's pretty much been overshadowed by the peace summit.

(CNN)The release of three US nationals currently detained in North Korea is "imminent," according to an official with knowledge of the ongoing negotiations.

The official told CNN the North Koreans made the decision to free the Americans two months ago, and that North Korea's Foreign Minister Ri Yong Ho had proposed their release during his visit to Sweden in March.

US officials insisted at the time that their release "must not be related or used to loosen the main issue of denuclearization," the source said.

The three Americans, Kim Dong Chul, Kim Hak-song and Kim Sang Duk, also known as Tony Kim, have been detained in North Korea for months.

Man... so many positive signals KJU is sending. I'm still very pessimistic, but at least these Americans are coming home. Bravo Trump and company.

U.S is already backpedaling on any kind of serious negociations, involving the human rights issues in NK.
Wich is true anyway.

The other one, son of a pastor, died unfortunately, as a spy, here's the released ones

The US is backpedaling about anything. I think they're just a bit more concerned about nukes.

So true, human rights is a masquerade excuse.

The only thing that could happend IMO is SK starting to "deal" again with NK like they did with this:
