situation 1, obama goes HARD at russia in 2015 and calls them out on an international stage for hacking. maybe levies some counter measures.

result: GOP says he's risking war with unfounded bullshit, then accuses him of playing inside baseball for Hillary and claims the banned accounts he called in to facebook were just americans and this is anti free speech censorship

the problem with any of these 20/20 hindsight scenarios is that there's no reason to believe that Obama, the democrats or FBI or DoJ or anyone actually had any real certainty about the russians behind responsible let alone proof back then. The most reasonable interpretation based on what we've seen since is that they had the same suspicions and motives I pointed out at the time, the motive and the means. But how could Obama go HARD at russia in 2015 without actual proof of the hacking? It would be like if Khrushchev went hard on the U2 spying incident, but didn't have Gary Powers. Even if they had reason to suspect it, heck even if the soviets knew, it would be about what they could prove. And we've seen some decent proof today, the forensic evidence and bitcoin transactions and whatnot- but that's 2 years of investigation later.
