Something interesting I've noticed recently is that, there is tons of talk about evacuating Kiev, but nobody talks about evacuating Kharkov (which is doing even worse) or other cities

I saw something about evacuating it a few days ago when Russia started their blitz but I didn't look into it. Haven't seen anything since.

I know that the Russians were putting up barriers on Crimea a while ago, not sure if they stopped doing it. Seems like Ukrainians are also digging trenches north of Kiev.

Nobody wants to stick with Russia.
Russia gets his allies by conquering them.
They conquer the country, they kill the intelligence/possible opposition, they forcefully move people to some unwelcome areas of their cold country. You Die in a couple of years there. They also draft people and force them to go to war.
Any opposition to the government is concentration camp.
Many Russians dont have toilets and things like that, but Russians have vast amounts of Rockets, tanks, artilleries etc.
Its an evil country.
Of course not all Russians are bad people, but the government is, and Russians cant really elect another government.
Nothing really changed in Russia since ww2 times.
Ussr collapsed when Putin was like 40 years old, for Putin its natural that Russia occupies central Europe by its tanks.

Poland wanted to be friendly with Russia in 18th century, unfortunately Russians occupied our country instead, took our freedom, and only give it back in 1990 when ussr collapsed.
Recent history of my country is 300 years fighting and resisting Russia. This is evil country, especially when Putin is in charge. (Gorbatschow was much better, much more peaceful leader)

Wrong. More than half the world is fine with Russia.
So does America. So did England and France and Spain and Rome and every other major power in history. Not relevant.
And yet they have less people imprisoned than America does by every possible measure, therefore they must be more free than America.
Many Americans don't even have a home let alone a toilet so that's also irrelevant.

Poland got screwed by everyone who could screw them. The Soviets were just among the more recent examples.

Yes, that's indeed interesting. My guess would be that Kyiv has almost twice the population of Kharkiv and that supplying this many people with diesel generators and drinking water from trucks is logistically impossible while it might still be (barely) feasible for a city of Kharkiv's size.

Also, Kharkiv is located in a much more strategic position, Ukraine cannot possibly give it up. Kharkiv is the base and tent pole for all their operations in the east.
