The square outside of Munich central station was chock-full with Afghans and Africans circa 2015-16. Since then, the police have ramped up their presence in the area and chased them away. It's still not a pleasant place, but subjective safety has improved a lot since then.

They could have issued mass public condemnations of the Saudi attack and support for Yemen's right to self-determination in choosing to align itself with Iran, imposing crippling sanctions on Saudi, made plans to reduce reliance on Saudi oil, shipped ATGMs and Stinger weapons to Yemen, "discussed" issuing a no-fly zone, accepted mass Yemani refugees, etc



Let us get real. Saudi Arabia would not launch any war without a triple green light from USA. More like the active direction of USA rather than green lights.

I find it simultaneously amusing, sad, and provocative when anyone pretends that American actions stem from any kind of moral high ground whatsoever.

It is true the invasion has exposed issues in the Russian military, but this is not the "best they could do". Believe it or not, they are trying to win this war relatively cleanly. They have not unleashed the destructive potential of their missiles and air force on Ukrainian cities yet.
It might be the "best they could do" for the current level of lethality they have constrained themselves to, but they can always chose to up the lethality level.

The big difference is that there was already a "hot" civil war in Yemen which had been going on for over a year when SA decided to intervene directly. By contrast, the situation in Ukraine was for the most part peaceful before Russia's invasion.

Accordingly, there were a lot of armed fighters operating in Yemen and there was a very realistic chance for a Houthi victory, and also that such a victory would spill over and lead to an insurgency by Shiites in SA. By contrast, the Russia-aligned sides in Ukraine (Donzek and Luhansk) were under no real threat of losing their position, there was no sizeable ethnic Ukrainian minority living in Russia threatening to destabize the country from within, and due to the frozen conflicts, there was also no real chance of Ukraine joining NATO or the EU anytime soon.
