There was nothing the U.S. could have done at the start of the war in Yemen to prevent it. What did you expect, that the U.S. aggressively positions itself against SA from the get go?
They could have issued mass public condemnations of the Saudi attack and support for Yemen's right to self-determination in choosing to align itself with Iran, imposing crippling sanctions on Saudi, made plans to reduce reliance on Saudi oil, shipped ATGMs and Stinger weapons to Yemen, "discussed" issuing a no-fly zone, accepted mass Yemani refugees, etc

This war would still have happened without U.S. arms sales to SA...
Let us get real. Saudi Arabia would not launch any war without a triple green light from USA. More like the active direction of USA rather than green lights.

Doing that would have risked a century old alliance, diminished U.S. influence in the Middle East and undermined their influence on the informal leader and most important singular member of OPEC (an org whose decisions have outsized influence on the domestic and global economy).
Yemen was brought up in the context of morality and guiding values of the US of A... What is this talk about political calculations?
Of course, the morality and guiding values talk is a load of croc
I find it simultaneously amusing, sad, and provocative when anyone pretends that American actions stem from any kind of moral high ground whatsoever.
