Did they successfully block it ?
There is a power struggle within their government, so lets see further down the road.

The fiance minister and foreign minister led a team to Veto it. Then again they are from the green party which is very very close to the United States and Blinken was in Germany while Scholtz was in China.

German here: Yes, they blocked it. What you were referring to is a different dispute within Germany's government from a week or two ago, when Chinese cargo company Cosco wanted to acquire a large share of a terminal in the port of Hamburg. The Green-led ministry of the economy and energy, as well as the FDP-led ministry of finances wanted the government to veto this purchase out of strategic concerns, but chancellor Scholz from the SPD overrode their veto and allowed the sale to go forward, albeit at a lower share (24.9%, so that Cosco doesn't have veto powers and isn't entitled to a seat on the board of the company that's operating this terminal).

Needless to say that Scholz is a pathetic wimp and a sorry excuse for a political leader.

I personally think he is pragmatic. No offense but I really like Merkel, she did some mistakes due to immigration but I think she was good and pragmatic.
I am not German and I don't know much about Germany but I am looking at it in a different viewpoint.

Scholz was the ex Hamburg Mayor I think, and I think this was a pragmatic move.

Scholz is still better than Merkel, in that he didn't commit any catastrophic strategic mistakes yet.

Merkel not only fucked up colossally on immigration, but also on ending nuclear energy, on delaying and messing up our transition to renewable energy, on not shoring up our social safety net for an aging society, on not pushing our industry to innovate any longer, she allowed the transformation of the eurozone into a debt- and transfer-union, completely lost the plot on covid, and also because she allowed the climate activists to totally dominate the public discourse.

She is the second-worst chancellor in German history by a wide margin if you ask me.

Like I said, I don't know much about Germany.
But in my eyes and it is a personal opinion as an outsider

I view Angela Merkel and Helmut kohl Favorably

I understand that, and it's perfectly fine. One of the big issues with Merkel was always that she got extremely and unjustifiably positive press coverage, both domestically and on the international stage. It makes perfect sense for an outsider to think that she was doing a great job, based on what was reported about her chancellorship.
