Moose have flat antlers, elk have pointy ones.

Ah, nevermind, we consider elk as a deer (deer is smaller than elk, antlers are not that branchy), while moose is a moose. Brofist, canucks.

imagine if 1/2 of this effort was spent in growing food and building housing or coming up with alternative energy solutions. War is the most inefficient form of progress. Unless you wipe the entire race and take their shit It just leaves both sides in a net negative.

Not true, unfortunately. The West is only as rich as it is because it sucks wealth out of the global south. It can only maintain this domination through wars, coups, political capture, bribery, etc.

Name every chocolate candy company you can think of.

Now name one from Africa, where most chocolate is grown.

This situation doesn't arise as a consequence of free trade, and when you understand the scope of what is at stake if NATO is defeated in Ukraine, you will understand why protest movements and new governments in Mali, Burkina Faso, Haiti and more are waving Russian flags when they march.

Edit: : no, capitalism can't fix Africa, only political struggle that centers nationalist or pan-African development can, whether they allow capitalists to operate or not.

The West is rich because it's technologically advanced and has the institutional stability requisite for growth.

Japan and Taiwan are rich for the same reasons. China is poor because they followed a madman for decades before finding Deng Xiaoping, whose legacy they've now abandoned for Winnie the Pooh.

lol, this is so dumb.

The West's comparative development is due to the extraction of wealth from colonies and indigenous dispossession, not to mention slavery. Of course you have more to spend on development when you, as Britain did, steal 45 trillion dollars from India: https://www.aljazeera.com/opinions/2018/12/19/how-britain-stole-45-trillion-from-india

Taiwan and Japan were propped up by American largesse, which only went so far for Japan. As soon as Japan tried to climb up the Shih curve too much and overtake America in too many industries, they had the Plaza Accords forced on them, leading to the rather well-known (I think?) "lost decade". And don't you worry, Taiwan's time at the sacrifice altar of American hegemony is coming, a few years at most.

China, on the other hand, has developed more rapidly than any other state in human history, eclipsing even the Soviet Union. They've lifted 800 million people out of poverty (ignore China in global poverty stats, and there's been no improvement since 1990) (PDF: https://chrgj.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/Alston-Poverty-Report-FINAL.pdf)

And most remarkably, they've done all this without invading anyone, without extracting wealth by force, without engaging in the nonstop imperial domination we see from America, France, Britain et al. And now, they graduate so many STEM students, file so many highly-cited research papers, and promoted a rejoinder to the liberalization direction of Hu and Jiang that forces the imperial eye to shift back to them.

But why post all this when a simple meme will do?

15 years ago, China had no highspeed rail. Today they have enough to circle the earth once at the equator. You really don't understand how fucked you are, do you?

Well that's a pedestrian hot take. Partially true partially muddled in crude view of the world. Purely on resource basis the west is just as rich. if not richer in (minerals, oil, metals etc). It is the worlds leader in banking and culture. If each nation was to be put on house arrest for the next 100 years and rely purely on its own resources and development the west would happily develop much more rapidly then any of the developing world. Yes it uses cheap labour, resources and oil from other nations and even in exploitative manner at times but it also exchanges technology and helps developing nations to rise above primitive lifestyles. To say that that our lifestyle is purely or heavy dependent on the backs of some black kids in africa is skewed.

You make 2 copies of earth side by side and you put the west on one and the developing world on the other you would see drastic differences.

Caveat: accepting the notion of propaganda, these are numbers at a glance as related to comments made yesterday re: casualties (casualties refers to dead or wounded) from websites around the world:

1. A general principal in this era is 5:1 (5 wounded for every 1 dead). I understand in WW2 they had a 3:1 ratio. Where this ratio moves or arrives at 1:1 the general concern is that it suggests war crimes ( on the basis that its not normal to have a higher death toll then injury toll ). The higher wounded count is attributed to the changed nature/landscape of war.
2. In Aug 2022 Forbes had it at 9000 dead Ukrainian soldiers (x5 is another 45000 wounded). If pre-war Ukraine had 300,000 soldiers, then by these numbers 1/6th of Ukraine's military is out of action, or using the US numbers as of today, 1/3rd of their original army size is out of action. If there is a notion that an army has both active and support personnel and its also a 5:1 ratio then its fair to say the Ukraine has lost a significant number of its "shooters".
2. As of Nov 2022, the United Nations has it at at 15,000 dead Ukrainians and applying a "standard" x5 injured that would amount to a further 75,000 wounded.
3. As of today Nov 10th 2022, the US estimates that between both sides there are approx. 200,000 dead or wounded, split evenly Ukraine:Russia. that means around 16K dead and 84K wounded Ukrainians. You can google BBC "Ukraine war: US estimates 200,000 military casualties on all sides" as coincidentally they have written about this today.

4. statistica.com (a german website) as of 6th Nov 2022 has it at 6500 dead civilians.

No one knows the real numbers as both sides are silent on it.

Happy for people to refute any of that, provide a source if doing so thanks.
