I think reading any history books is good. Also i really like kissingers books, they were my entry-books for geopolitics, he is super biased but if you ignore it and read between the hypocrisy it is extremely valuable in learning how the mechanisms of politics are driven. (diplomacy was great as an example)

Sphere of influence has different levels, annexing is just 1 version.

When i used to read heavily, china wasn't such a vital part of the political landscape, so I'm not as china-centric but your right i should be more well-read on china if i wanna understand current situations better. The concept of the new silk road, all roads lead to china is the what will cement the new world order. Honestly I one of the main reasons the ukraine conflict has escalated is directly linked to china

The world doesn't care what you "feel", and the "civilized world order" you talk about doesn't either. Also the state of the world has gone through 2 phrases after ww2, the one with 2 massive blocks which then turned into 1 massive block. The 1 block had full hegemony and could do whatever they wanted. Now it is going back to 2 blocks. During this entire time different levels of "imperialism" have been ongoing, i dont like the word imperialims though, it is just a simplified version of sphere of influence.

The world was never civilized to begin with and it wasn't after world war two. But if you are talking about the Western World being civilized that is a given, but whether the Western World are treating others apart from them in a civil manner is another thing.

Yup, initially wanted to build an in road via Ukraine to Europe I think . I am more China centric now since I am from South East Asia and now living in Hong Kong for Work. So the North and South Korea, Taiwan /China conflict and South China Sea situation will affect me. As a matter of fact, politics in Australia and New Zealand will also affect me.

There is 2 people who should never discuss politics:
1. The moralist
2. The selective moralist (satans personal spawn)

Both of these 2 people should be hugging trees, but the selective moralist should be hanged from the trees. My point is, moralists don't belong in a political discussion.
