Honestly one of the reasons I've stopped following politics closely since 2016 is because there's just no comparison in quality anymore. Republicans are a joke and have largely dropped even pretending to be honest. Democrats aren't perfect, but the difference in quality is so ridiculously apparent that there's hardly any room to actually discuss. We have a president looking to rent out our military and extorting foreign governments for political gain and his supporters can do nothing but grasp at any plausible deniability and play dumb.

I knew there was no going back when I saw Bogie shilling for Trump. At that point all honesty had pretty much disappeared.

Agreed. It's unfortunate because I think it's important to have a strong right-wing political party, but I can't see myself voting for any Republicans for quite a while. The party has been getting less serious over the years and now it's the party of Donald Trump and Infowars. We can pretend after Trump is gone things will get normal again, but the batshit crazy Republican voters aren't going anywhere.

these are just two of many pale pasty privileged lefties crying and throwing temper tantrums for years now because they didn’t get their way

Do you type out "pale pasty privileged lefties" every time, or copy + paste?

Bingo. That won't be fixed for a while.

easy solution: when the next Democrat gets into the WH, just open the southern border complete. about twenty years later, thanks to birthright citizenship, these "new americans" can outvote those "batshit crazy republicans" and turn them into an irrelevant, electorally impotent constituency.

actually, this is such a good plan that the democratic nomineee in 2020 should stick up for it in public and make it the centerpiece of his/her platform.

It will happen in 20 years regardless of opening the border. The batshit republicans are dying off. O'Reilly's average audience was like 65 ten or more years ago. The mass die-off has already started.

time will tell. even in the 1950s and 1960s, the youth was largely to the left of the political center, yet the time period from 1968 to 2008 was dominated by conservative politics, with the only Democrats winning the presidency during that timeframe being centrist southerners.

The youth don't actually get more conservative, they just get more liberal at a slower rate than the rest of society. The legacy of the leftist youth of the boomers was fortunately civil rights, while their parents "the greatest generation" fought tooth and nail to stop it.

The legacy of my generation coming up will probably be seen to be gay rights, and hopefully the next generation won't just be trans rights, but will be some more obvious stuff like access to education and healthcare.

Modern medicine will help Baby Boomers live into their 80s and 90s.

Also, GenX is pretty similarily as conservative as the Boomers.

Conservatism won't die off in America anytime soon.

Another factor to keep in mind is that the average age of citizens and voters is going up. The share of young voters among the electorate at-large is shrinking, which offsets the widening liberal margin among these young voters.

Something along the lines of: Democrats might get a better margin out of the 18-39 year olds in 2020 than they did in say 2000, but 18-39 year olds in 2020 might make up just 20% of the electorate while they accounted for 30% in 2000.
