Russia arrested it's economic freefall and turned things around economically. Ukraine is the only former Soviet bloc country to never regain it's overall QoL in the 30 years since the collapse of the USSR.

Ukraine before the war was the worst place to live in Europe. It's why the only people you see there are 1) people born there, 2) international students looking for education from the detritus of the Soviet schooling system, 3) sex pests using dollar arbitrage to buy Ukrainian prostitutes on the cheap and 4) committed fascists looking for adventure and some good chances at rape.

Not a secret, just a general misconception.

The greater issue here is that America (and Americans and Westies in general) continually insist on holding the mantle of moral superiority while they perpetrate the world's largest slavery system, jail children in grotesque concentration camps full of COVID and STDs (remember when people cared about that in Oct 2020?), maintain the most expansive military outposts in world history, blow up pipelines and do coups on governments (bye bye Bolsonaro) all over the world, etc etc.

And then when cornered -> "at least we aren't X", where X is some dead empire or bad understanding of an enemy states' history.
