History is weird. Most of North and South America is an Extension of the Spanish, Dutch, French and British. Ironically a lot of what Americans celebrate is the biggest genocide known to mankind.
I dunno about the irony, I think the defining character of America (and Canada and Australia) has to be found in their initial genocides, and additionally to differing degrees in the history of slavery.
The foundation of American mythology is that they escaped from an imposing tyrant to establish a revolutionary, vibrant liberal democracy. What they actually did was rebel against the abolition of slavery passed by London, and went to war to keep their human tools. It was a
counter-revolution in that sense. A lot of Americans (not on PARDfront, perhaps) look at the ACW with a bit of chagrin about the cause of the Confederacy, but haven't come around to understanding it's really more of a second substantiation of the America's initial rebellion against abolition.
Little wonder that these countries find themselves at the top of a bloodsucking imperial order that still depends on the extraction of wealth from impoverished and financially colonized 'lessers', and will go to extreme lengths to defend it. (We're talking openly about doing Cuban Missile Crisis 2 in Finland this week, with
much less competent actors in place than JFK.) 1,600 billion USD a year flows out of Africa,
net. There's a reason we see Western and Central African protesters, coup leaders and liberation movements waving Russian flags these days. They want their enemy to lose in Europe so the boot comes off their neck, at least a little bit, at home.
Edit: Oh, and Haitians, who are currently being subjugated once again by a combined US/Canadian invasion force to put down their most recent attempt at self-determination. Not a peep on PARD from the Ukrainian-agency-defenders about that country, though.
