I think it's reasonable to consider him trash based on this single incident, regardless of other behavior on his part which also warrants such an accusation.

I also agree that statements by public officials can taint the process, but that in no way means that those statements rendered the jury incapable of weighing the case before it on the merits of the case. The verdict was unanimous, and that's important to remember here.

At the end of the day, the officer's actions were grossly negligent of his duty of care to a man under his restraint. Officer Chauvin's actions resulted in the death of a citizen, and a unanimous jury of his peers agreed.

In that case, it took 3.5 years of protracted court battle to obtain the footage of the incident. You cannot compare this to the Floyd case where the footage was making its way to the public immediately. Without everyone seeing the jarring footage of Floyd's death, his case wouldnt have gotten much traction either.

Why did the FBI indict the other officers? It was literally their first week on the job.

Because of it, no one is signing up to be a cop anymore.

None of your ideas are good and they don't work.

What is really happening is that the federal government is trying to usurp power and create a federalized police force by crucifying local cops.

He also didn't profess his innocence.

Right? He offered to plead guilty to 3rd degree murder. The only difference here is, was 2nd degree murder justified? The jury felt so, pressured or not.

lolwut? Just this singular action? The guy had accumulated 18 complaints against him in 19 years of service. He was a textbook rotten apple and should have been fired a long time ago.

I am not happy with Biden's and Waters' comments on the ongoing trial, or with the public pressure applied on both the jury and the ME. I have even voiced my disapproval of the way Biden handled it.

Nontheless, this is one of the instances where two wrongs were indeed making a right. A justice system too willing to let bad/violent cops off the hook and mob pressure on the jury more or less cancelled each other out to produce the "just" verdict. I'm happy with the outcome of the trial, even if the process to get there was dubious.

Okay, if he was rotten he should have been removed. But your justification of two wrongs making a right is incorrect and ultimately will make things worse off for everyone except authoritative tyrants.

No he is right. You’re just too much of a lefty to admit it.

You seem to be considering him trash when he is trying to apprehend a larger person. Again, you can’t seriously think if you did that job you could possibly be doing something differently. And all people can throw back at it, is they know what they signed up for. I would truly expect you to recognize this is a clear attempt to wholeheartedly demonize the police force.

You are trying to be objective, but it’s clear your responses are subjective

He was rotten, he wasn't removed, and then he murdered a guy. If there was significant interferrence that results in a tainted jury he will be granted a mistrial on appeal and a new trial will happen. However, it's important to realize that this was a very quick and unanimous decision. It's unlikely that he will get a different result.

Floyd being a larger person is irrelevant. The jury that decided the case knew the size of Floyd compared to Chauvin, and saw every fact of the case, and so will any second jury if a mistrial is declared.

Think of it like this: at one point in the encounter, he was informed by the strenuously objecting bystanders that the suspect was unconscious. At that point, if he had removed his knee from his neck and checked for pulse/breathing, I would say his actions to that point were defensible. This was the inflection point of the encounter. But he didn't. He continued to maintain the pressure, showing a supreme indifference to the condition of the suspect, and loses his claim to acting in good faith with his training. Even the police chief said he exceeded his training.
