The trial is somewhat comparable to OJ

He was indicted hecause he was white not hecause he was guilty

He got caught committing murder. It was in video, Google it.

If Chauvin was black, he would have never even been arrested.

But he was white, killed a black man and got convicted of it.

If Chauvin was black, he would have been arrested just as quickly, if not even quicker, and gone to jail for many years. Perhaps he would have avoided a conviction for 2nd degree murder because the trial would have been under less public scrutiny - but this hypothetical outcome, not the actual outcome we got with Chauvin, would have been injustice.

The issue is not that Chauvin was found guilty for 2nd degree murder, the issue is that violent, careless cops normally get away with far too much shit. In the Floyd-Chauvin case, the cop didnt get away with it for a change.

Now the EndlessSky-answer: "If Chauvin was black, he would have been raised by a selfish single mother and turned into a mentally damaged street thug rather than a cop. (And niggers are far too dumb and ape-like to serve on the police force anyway.)"

You both are pretty well reasoned individuals. I prefer to read your responses to many things in the SF compared to so many. However, to just assume this guy is trash because of that singular action is just ludicrous.

It’s actually quite insane you think he is wrong from a moral view but that the opposite side which is basic mob rule and jury tampering isn’t the worse of the moral rot of this whole situation.

Also, as always with these police situations, nobody is blaming anything other than the office on duty, especially when they don’t do it themselves, etc. even if what the officer did was not okay.

Too much mental gymnastics to justify this type of nonsense. It’s actually really sad when reasonable people start falling for this, which is exactly what is happening and why shit is getting worse

Libertarianism is a great personal philosophy and a terrible governing philosophy.

lolwut? Just this singular action? The guy had accumulated 18 complaints against him in 19 years of service. He was a textbook rotten apple and should have been fired a long time ago.

I am not happy with Biden's and Waters' comments on the ongoing trial, or with the public pressure applied on both the jury and the ME. I have even voiced my disapproval of the way Biden handled it.

Nontheless, this is one of the instances where two wrongs were indeed making a right. A justice system too willing to let bad/violent cops off the hook and mob pressure on the jury more or less cancelled each other out to produce the "just" verdict. I'm happy with the outcome of the trial, even if the process to get there was dubious.

Why did the FBI indict the other officers? It was literally their first week on the job.

Because of it, no one is signing up to be a cop anymore.

None of your ideas are good and they don't work.

What is really happening is that the federal government is trying to usurp power and create a federalized police force by crucifying local cops.

I think it's reasonable to consider him trash based on this single incident, regardless of other behavior on his part which also warrants such an accusation.

I also agree that statements by public officials can taint the process, but that in no way means that those statements rendered the jury incapable of weighing the case before it on the merits of the case. The verdict was unanimous, and that's important to remember here.

At the end of the day, the officer's actions were grossly negligent of his duty of care to a man under his restraint. Officer Chauvin's actions resulted in the death of a citizen, and a unanimous jury of his peers agreed.
