Nobody is above the law let alone some fanatical reporters on the front line hellbent on downplaying the looting and insisting the poor protesters are "peaceful".

If these were those kind perhaps they are the ones that should be locked up for 10 years.

It's sad when reporters are safer in Iraq than America.

10 years prison, an australian news crew was shot with rubber bullets, dunno what it is about us cops and shooting australians.

That seems appropriate IMO. Hopefully the officers are ID'd and charged.

I read a report from a priest who got shot with rubber bullets and tear gassed today at a peaceful gathering so trump could do a photo op, pretty sure anyone that will attack the clergy wouldn't hesitate to attack a reporter or two.
What law exactly were the reporters breaking?

After a week of extended looting / riots / arson you're suggesting there are no laws broken and the authorities should still be holding back?

I understand your left wing position but this is ridiculous mate. Bout time the authorities step in and the only option they have at this point is using proportional force against these extremists.

People stupid enough to be on the front line when an area is being cleared might catch a rubber bullet. It's not a place for pussy reporters.

The FBI’s Washington Field Office “has no intelligence indicating Antifa involvement/presence” in the violence that occurred on May 31 during the D.C.-area protests over the murder of George Floyd, according to an internal FBI situation report obtained exclusively by The Nation. That same day, President Donald Trump announced on Twitter that he would designate “Antifa” a terrorist organization, even though the government has no existing authority to declare a domestic group a terrorist organization, and antifa is not an organized group. Following the president’s tweet, Attorney General William Barr said in a statement, “The violence instigated and carried out by Antifa and other similar groups in connection with the rioting is domestic terrorism and will be treated accordingly.”

The FBI report, however, states that “based on CHS [Confidential Human Source] canvassing, open source/social media partner engagement, and liaison, FBI WFO has no intelligence indicating Antifa involvement/presence.” The statement followed a list of violent acts like throwing bricks at police and the discovery of a backpack containing explosive materials, which were flagged by the FBI under a “Key Updates” section of the report. The FBI has been issuing such reports daily since the weekend, according to a Bureau source, who added that none of these documents contained any evidence of antifa violence.

I am suggesting that protest is a right and that those not actually breaking laws should not be attacked by uniformed thugs.
You know what else is illegal?
Police brutality.

The journalists were probably violating curfews or were present in an area that the police had cleared. So they did probably commit some kind of misdemeanor. But nothing that even remotely justifies the kind of police violence they faced.

I wasnt talking about the photo op in DC, I was talking about the many instances across the country over the last couple of days where journalists were arrested or shot at with rubber bullets or tear gas.

And? The wamens must be equal to the men in all situations in 2020 thus the cop did the right thing. I'm glad he didn't discriminate and let her have some just like the males always get.

Statement by George W. Bush: https://www.bushcenter.org/about-the-center/newsroom/press-releases/2020/06/statement-by-president-george-w-bush.html#

Quote

"The heroes of America — from Frederick Douglass, to Harriet Tubman, to Abraham Lincoln, to Martin Luther King, Jr. — are heroes of unity. Their calling has never been for the fainthearted. They often revealed the nation’s disturbing bigotry and exploitation — stains on our character sometimes difficult for the American majority to examine. We can only see the reality of America's need by seeing it through the eyes of the threatened, oppressed, and disenfranchised. "

Laura and I are anguished by the brutal suffocation of George Floyd and disturbed by the injustice and fear that suffocate our country. Yet we have resisted the urge to speak out, because this is not the time for us to lecture. It is time for us to listen. It is time for America to examine our tragic failures – and as we do, we will also see some of our redeeming strengths.

It remains a shocking failure that many African Americans, especially young African American men, are harassed and threatened in their own country. It is a strength when protesters, protected by responsible law enforcement, march for a better future. This tragedy — in a long series of similar tragedies — raises a long overdue question: How do we end systemic racism in our society? The only way to see ourselves in a true light is to listen to the voices of so many who are hurting and grieving. Those who set out to silence those voices do not understand the meaning of America — or how it becomes a better place.

America’s greatest challenge has long been to unite people of very different backgrounds into a single nation of justice and opportunity. The doctrine and habits of racial superiority, which once nearly split our country, still threaten our Union. The answers to American problems are found by living up to American ideals — to the fundamental truth that all human beings are created equal and endowed by God with certain rights. We have often underestimated how radical that quest really is, and how our cherished principles challenge systems of intended or assumed injustice. The heroes of America — from Frederick Douglass, to Harriet Tubman, to Abraham Lincoln, to Martin Luther King, Jr.

That is exactly where we now stand. Many doubt the justice of our country, and with good reason. Black people see the repeated violation of their rights without an urgent and adequate response from American institutions. We know that lasting justice will only come by peaceful means. Looting is not liberation, and destruction is not progress. But we also know that lasting peace in our communities requires truly equal justice. The rule of law ultimately depends on the fairness and legitimacy of the legal system. And achieving justice for all is the duty of all.

This will require a consistent, courageous, and creative effort. We serve our neighbors best when we try to understand their experience. We love our neighbors as ourselves when we treat them as equals, in both protection and compassion. There is a better way — the way of empathy, and shared commitment, and bold action, and a peace rooted in justice. I am confident that together, Americans will choose the better way.
