Whipping Mexico, Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador into cooperating with asylum seekers and taking back deported persons is Trump's biggest success on immigration. That's a really big change and far outweighs the couple of miles of wall that he got funded.

100%, i said in 2015 the working with the countries they're fleeing (not mexico) was key to any success.

Yeah, but Trump got them to cooperate by putting the screws on, not by drowning them in billions of aid money or handing them tens of thousands of extra green cards in return for their cooperation.

a promise of negative money is close to a promise of positive money really. the only real difference is letting them keep the aid they have doesnt improve the country overall to stop immigration naturally. it just stops it in the short term when they clamp down at the risk of more instability.

both can work to be sure, long term they might differ a bit tho.

I still see it as making quite the difference if the US is trying to work with them on building a more stable society via humanitarian aid out of a position of strength (if it doesnt work, that's your problem first and foremost) or a position of weakness (we have absolutely no other option than to give them humanitarian aid, otherwise, we'll be overrun by migrants within a few months).

i quite agree. if your mommy gives u a cookie every night even the occasionally cookie-less night can be quite the teaching tool.

It's definitely more effective than mommy giving you a cookie every night no matter what, and teasing you with a second cookie if you're behaving well and do your homework.

indeed, but mommy also needs to give you a cookie eventually. or the lack of cookie loses all it's power. it's as much about the daily cookie as it is missing a cookie in the long run.

half of a wall is like trying to eat soup out of half a bowl.

but valid point on the mandate.

i comprehend your analogy, but i'm still adding this in to get some numbers down.

i don't usually use this site for a multitude of reasons. however, they wouldn't give it to trump unless they had to.

Customs and Border Protection told PolitiFact that since January 2017, the agency has received about $6.2 billion to build 334 miles of "new border wall system." That includes steel-bollard barriers, all-weather roads, lighting, cameras, and other surveillance technology.

he was able to get as much money as he asked the house for.
without the help of the house.
