He's taking plenty of flak from senators who are staunch allies on almost any other issue, he's taking plenty of flak here on PaRD from users who usually are on his side, myself included. He's also getting an unusual amount of criticism from conservative media over this.

Many conservatives are neocons. It’s not surprising that they think being involved or part of this conflict is good*, they always find ‘valid’ reasons to be engulfed in conflicts half a world away.

Maybe I'm projecting my own personal stance here, but I'm under the impression that a big chunk of the criticism focuses on the amateurish and botched decision process and communication strategy instead of the decision itself.

Like bogie said, his delivery is dumb AF and he should of just done it and not take to twitter.

I see a ton of people here critical of the actual move though. In your opinion, what do you do next when you find out through the back channels that the Turks are coming whether American soldiers are there or not. Do you leave your soldiers to fight a bigger force? Do you send in the tomahawks or the F-35's to bomb the Turks? I'd love to hear your alternative solutions.

Make it clear to Erdogan that if he attacks American soldiers, he will have to pay a monumental price - but through diplomatic back-channels, not via twitter.

His staunchest allies on pard afaik are cambo and ghot 🤷‍♂️

Im not questioning the move itself but the reasons he cited publicly are cringe

Thought it'd be something everyone could agree on

Sure, but something tells me this conversation was had and Turkeys red line in the sand was drawn long ago. They simply are not going to let Kurds grow strong right across their border when they've been embroiled in separatist conflicts with the Kurds for decades domestically.

We knew this conflict was coming half a year ago. The Turks told us to fuck off when we tried pressing them to not buy the S-400s, so realistically speaking you don't think they would have told us to fuck off once again?

There's really only two solutions: either we stick with the Kurds and have to defend them (meaning we fight Turkey) or we abandon the Kurds and let them fend for themselves. These are the only two, and i understand the desire to skirt around a direct answer but lets be honest.
