If China uses nukes on US carriers, there's nothing to stop US submarines from using nukes on China's invasion fleet. Don't be dumb here.

"bunker busters" LOL

I'm sure you have the exact name memorized - idc if they call it the Penetrator 69,000

Whatever you call them, they'll sink your ship.

Invasion by sea is literal suicide, even by your solution - so we counter with our own nukes and end the world. Nice

They knew about the fire for ten minutes and didn't tell anyone lol

That's a *fog of war* kind of moment. Is the fire first appraised as minimal and therefore unnecessary to be reported higher up? Who knows. But at the time, main firefighting responsibilities rested with shore based firefighters.

It's hard to imagine how dumb a person has to be to imagine that fighting opium farmers in Afghanistan or imposing a naval blockade against a country without a navy in Yemen breeds experience fighting a real conventional war, but, again, in all likelihood this is exactly what people like Austin and Blinken think.

Anyone remember that ship that burned up in San Diego a few years and probably gave half the people in that city cancers they'll be declaring bankruptcy for in 2030?

Turns out the sailors on that boat did not know there was a button that put out fires on the ship. No one tried to press it.

But would it have mattered? Apparently, maintenance on the ship was so bad that it's likely that had the fire suppression system been activated, it wouldn't have worked.

And you think these sailors are going to deal with hypersonic glide vehicles dropping out of the sky?

OK bud :)

You realise Iraq had the fourth largest army in the world and it was decimated in days during the first gulf war?
U.S vs China wouldn't even be close. It won't even be close for at least 50 years.

"bunker busters" are typically like 2K kg warheads. I doubt a hypersonic missile is going to carry that much mass to target.

Dude, you brought up China using tactical nukes and uncritically presume that the US responding with tactical nukes is the step that leads to nuclear holocaust, and not the first use of nukes? FOH

I'm not saying that they would immediately escalate to nukes, but just that there are many types of these missiles that could quite easily wipe the entire surface of a carrier clean - even if it miraculously survived.

You really think that any sort of object traveling at Mach 15+ wouldn't just immediately blast every object parked on top of a carrier into the sea? Just think about the physics of that impact.

Why does every discussion like this devolve into a fight about who has the bigger "nuclear warhead"?

You're being silly. It's the US that has a nuclear first strike doctrine with extremely vague and permissive "rules" for use, and who has made a big show of strapping tactical nukes to cruise missiles. Not China.

China will not be using nuclear weapons unless it is nuked first.

The point about nuclear weapons was only meant to demonstrate that there is more than one type of hypersonic missile.

Whoever uses nukes first decides to collectively destroy the world. We can only hope that our leaders aren't retarded enough to sign that off

Not even. I don't think any of us are taking this personally - the question of whether or not these new missiles could render America's navy obsolete is an interesting one and I'm liking talking about it.

You're probably right, I do stand by the statement that America has virtually zero experience with a serious enemy, though, which is how this all started.

You mean the first gulf war when America was able to slowly over the course of a year build up a huge force right on Iraq's border, fighting against AA tech decades out of date, an enemy without GPS?

That one?

lol

the manager of the german cybernetic security agency has been fired by the german minister of defence.

apparently this weasel, schonbohm, has close connection with russian espionage entities.

he's also the co-founder of the german cybernetic security council. among it's members, there's a russian cybernetic security company founded by an (ex?) kgb agent.

lol
