If the Japs could sink carriers with cardboard planes, I'm pretty sure Xia mang bow mong's hypersonic missiles can sink them too.

If you think modern supercarriers have the same construction and damage control abilities as WWII Essex carriers, I don't think what you're "pretty sure of" matters.

Lets just humor that for a second

What good is an aircraft carrier that just got its surface deck completely wiped out by a hypersonic missile anyway? What will you protect your jets with - trojan condoms?

It's hard to imagine how dumb a person has to be to imagine that fighting opium farmers in Afghanistan or imposing a naval blockade against a country without a navy in Yemen breeds experience fighting a real conventional war, but, again, in all likelihood this is exactly what people like Austin and Blinken think.

Anyone remember that ship that burned up in San Diego a few years and probably gave half the people in that city cancers they'll be declaring bankruptcy for in 2030?

Turns out the sailors on that boat did not know there was a button that put out fires on the ship. No one tried to press it.

But would it have mattered? Apparently, maintenance on the ship was so bad that it's likely that had the fire suppression system been activated, it wouldn't have worked.

And you think these sailors are going to deal with hypersonic glide vehicles dropping out of the sky?

OK bud :)

You have no idea what you're talking about. That ship (the USS Bonhomme Richard) was in drydock for overhaul. The vast majority of its damage control apparatus and crew were not onboard or in operating condition when the fire occurred. US Navy damage control training is EXTENSIVE. ALL sailors are required to undergo training after the USS Forrestal (forest fire) incident in Vietnam. The "button to push" was for a Halon firefighting system, which was disabled for repairs.

Being hypersonic isn't going to increase the warhead's explosive power, it's just going to help it evade interdiction. To sink a ship, you need to cause it to take on more water than its buoyancy can manage, or burn uncontrollably. Neither are likely. I'm not saying they're impossible. They're unlikely.

The report: "The command investigation also concluded “a lack of familiarity with requirements and procedural noncompliance at multiple levels of command” contributed to the loss of ship."

I can't find the article I read with the exact things I mentioned, but I'm 98% sure I didn't make them up. The navy.mil and BBC articles from October 2021 both say the report found egregious faults in training, readiness and command.

Hypersonic missiles are capable of carrying anything from bunker busters to nuclear weapons, brah.

They can literally hit your super carrier with tactical nuclear bombs lmao.

Yes, "noncompliance" due to not having a proper fire watch stationed aboard. Shipyards are notorious for fires due to all the cutting, welding, etc. Everyone knows this, yet the command allowed the situation which led to the loss of the ship.

They knew about the fire for ten minutes and didn't tell anyone lol

If China uses nukes on US carriers, there's nothing to stop US submarines from using nukes on China's invasion fleet. Don't be dumb here.

"bunker busters" LOL
