Exactly what I mean about American overconfidence and mediocrity of insight, and how it creates an ideological environment where America is driven towards conflicts it cannot win.
The most astounding thing about comments like this is that the people in the very top of the American political establishment, despite certainly being aware of for example how much tonnage of destroyers and cruisers China drops into the ocean each year versus how much American tonnage has declined over the past thirty, they still have this ridiculous belief in American supremacy.
America is so far ahead of China militarily. Winning a war with China for the US would not mean invading China mainland. Winning for the US would be containing China. Something that they are already doing.
Dropping tonnage into ocean might be ideal for projecting regional power, but China is not even a fully fledged regional power whilst Taiwan is not under their control.
Talking about China even being close to the USA military in 5 years is total nonsense. China won't be successful in defeating the US military in any of our lifetimes, probably not this century.
The US by itself could spank China 3 times over, not to mention South Korea, a potential re-militarizing Japan, the Aussies, India, Israel and other allies.
Who is China main ally militarily? The Russkis running from Kherson to Crimea as we speak? The North Koreans literally starving to death in concentration camps?
What was the last war that Chinese army or air force fought in? Korea? By proxy in Vietnam? Absolute nonsense.
