I think if they attack it's to try to force Ukraine to the negotiating table. One of the main reasons Ukraine has been fairly reluctant to negotiate/concede the east is because the war has been relatively contained within the east and south. Life largely goes on in the north and west as before. Sure there's the occasional strike on barracks or some military/defensive structure but IMO it doesn't have a war-time feel to it. If Russia starts setting up mrls systems 50km from Kiev and starts turning Kiev into Mariupol or Severodonetsk, that's a lot more painful for Ukraine. Who knows though, maybe it is just a way to spread Ukraine thinner meanwhile the Donbass and/or the south being the true goal.
Russia propaganda claims that it's only attacking military and defensive structures. The myriad of pictures and clips of shelled residential buildings and blown up streets prove them wrong. Sure, life in the West and North is not nearly as disrupted as in the South and East, but they also still have to fear Russian missiles at any moment.
What makes you think the Ukrainian military would just sit back and twiddle thumbs while the Russian army sets up MRLS in range of Kyiv? Imho, it's blatantly obvious that they would nip such an attempt in the bud. The Russians had a much higher number of troops marching on Kyiv in the opening phase of this war and couldn't sustain their presence in its vicinity, why should that be different now? The true tactical values lies in the fact that the Russian corps in Belarus poses this threat and thus forces some additional Ukrainian troops to remain in Kyiv instead of joining the operations in the South and East.

Elon Musk was briefly placed as a bounty onto the Ukrainian kill list website Myrotvorets, before they realized the mistake of drawing that much attention to the fact Ukrainian Nazis have been openly keeping kill lists of journalists, pundits and politicians they plan to murder. So now for the umpteenth time pro-Ukrainian journalists are tasked with downplaying the fact Ukrainian Nazis keep a kill list website right out in the open
How relevant is this website? Does it have a large number of users, or does it have users who have outsized influence on Ukrainian politics or the country's public opinion?
