why is supporting israel's claim to the middle east something american tax payers should do? for geopolitical and military internationalism? to hinder iran further? is that the primary reason?

what makes it their rightful homeland exactly? the only reason it is currently their land is [initially and primarily] the American taxpayer. What has been shown to be true is power is what makes something your land, nothing else. Previous ownership or religions reasons mean nothing, power is all that matters.

I know that the current funding isn't propping up Israel as it's a small fraction of its gdp, but at its inception and throughout its recent history the west has financially and militarily supported israel's existence.

I think the only persuasive argument for the continual funding of israel by the west (primarily america) is that it must be an incredible investment. I am ignorant of that reasoning outside of hindering nations that hate America for its support of Israel in the first place. America doesn't really care about oil in the middle east for personal use, they only care that the oil doesn't go to places like china and russia.

what seems to be the case is America gives money to Israel so it can support military companies such as LMT but label it as foreign aid

then you dont know anything about it. islam started out peaceful. later turned into something else. you can be a peaceful person and be fully muslim. or you can be a warmonger and be fully muslim. sounds like contradiction? understanding islam is understanding what abrogration means. in short the later verse that contradicts an earlier verse is considered the greater verse. some divided it as the mecca koran and medina koran.
