too bad that conservatives ALSO oppose comprehensive sex education and access to birth control measures then. that's why america has such high teen pregnancy rates. third world shithole really, and republicans are the main culprits.

also, birth control CAN fail, and there are plenty of other reasons that even a conservative could be in favour of legal abortions (rape, incest, medical complications, and most importantly: because it's not the government's business - but i'm talking to a fascist bootlicker, so obviously you're in favour of the government making such decisions for you... well, not you, because you're an incel, but people who can have children) - but obviously that would require compassion, intelligence, and the realisation that your morals shouldn't be imposed on other people, so i guess it's not surprising that right-wingers don't get it...

agreed, we should do comprehensive sex education the way you and those woke so called educators want it to be

tell 3rd graders that they are trans and teach them certain "sex practises" = no pregnancy

true genius fenderp

meanwhile in reality your rape or failed birth control examples are extreme outliers

p.s: dont talk about compassion, you literally make fun of people suffering, when they dont share your stupid opinions

A kid born into a bad environment today in America is better off than the vast majority of people who have existed historically. Arguments about the risks of unsafe abortions only work when you don't see the unborn human being as a life worth valuing.

what a dumb non-argument. that still means a child growing up in poverty, suffering hunger, a loveless childhood, a depressed / suicidal mother, a life in crime and prison... or whatever. it still means desperate young women killing themselves because they see no other way, unsafe abortions, lifelong suffering. again, it's almost adorable how unaware you are (or pretend to be) regarding the realities of life. it's one thing to have those simplistic religious morals and wanting to impose those on others, which is bad enough, but it's a completely different thing to just ignore the real life outcomes of the government enforcing those on the people.

anyway, we've been over this before, and obviously there is not much of an argument to be had with religious zealots, i just wanted to remind you of the fact in reality this won't result in "lives" being "saved", but whole existences being destroyed and devastated, actual lives of persons with thoughts and feelings being lost.

And just like that Ukraine was forgotten as the 'current thing' and now we have abortion rights as the hot topic to be spammed on msm for the next 6 months.

invasion of ukraine was long old news, media/governments had already 'used it' for their own purposes (distraction from the inflation said governments drove to 4+ decade record-level highs). we had gun control last 3-4 weeks as the issue of the day.

yeah so did WWI and WWII, on several magnitudes higher of scale. we still let the ashes of the 2nd and 3rd reich rise back up and exist as a free nation after they started both world wars. should we have not done so? i would be in agreement if so.

It was a question of Trump's populism against neoliberal excesses. And putting in conservative justices was a welcome restoration of sanity to an activist judiciary, because the judiciary refusing to dictate laws isn't a glitch, its a feature. Having Hillary meant the economy tanking, jobs shipping overseas, domestic industry gutted, warmongering to no end, the endless ratcheting up of authoritarian infringements on free speech and fair elections. Sure, we'd have abortion to continue to be legal at the federal level- by continuing to suppress people from being to weigh in on it democratically. We wouldn't have had the Trump economic boom or the end of the wars in the middle east or a realignment to oppose China.

At the end of the day, democracy only works when everyone agrees to a shared free and fair system. It doesn't work if one side throws a hissy fit and tries to overturn the results, and it doesn't work if those in power abuse their position to suppress their opposition. Those are threats that exist on both the left and the right, but I'm 1000x more concerned about Merrick Garland sending storm troopers into homes of journalists in the middle of the night than a bunch of Trump chuds lining up to take selfies in the capitol. Democracy didn't "almost end in 2020", its been teetering on the edge of almost ending since 2016, as neoliberals continue to try to undermine democracy and plunge us into an authoritarian dystopia. And there was no greater cheerleader of the movement to destroy American democracy than Hillary Clinton.

Cutting taxes for the rich sounds pretty neoliberal to me.

Well, if the extent of the effort to overturn the election was just rubes taking selfies at the Capitol, I'd be with you. I think we both know better than that. You don't have to be a MSNBC nightly viewer to accept the reality of what Trump and his chronies attempted to do. And it doesn't take a lot of mental 4d chess to realize that had there been more willing Trumpists at the state level, the end result could've been Trump re-elected president. To me, a valid election overturned means American democracy is essentially over.

I don't follow politics that closely anymore so I don't know what journalist you're talking about. I know some of Trump's coup plotters are being investigated, and they should be. In a world where Trump's attempted coup doesn't result in political consequences, if the DOJ can enact legal ones, I'm all for it.

that's just the sicko projections you'd expect from sexual misconduct hotspots like faux news and the republican party, not things for which there is ANY statistical evidence in real life. imagine basing your whole "argument" on absurd claims made by conservative paedophiles, while dismissing ACTUAL issues like a lack of comprehensive sex ed, access to contraceptives, and the resulting teen pregnancy rate in the US - things that have been an issue for literal decades...

Is a fertilized embryo in early development, little more than a microscopic clump of cells, an equally valuable human life to a newly born baby or adolescent or adult?
As per the thought experiment- if a fertility clinic is burning down and in one room is a tray of some number of multiple fertilized embryos and in another room is a toddler screaming for help, and you only have time to rescue from one room, do you multitrack drift the trolley?

I don't know. As for the thought experiment, I would save the toddler.

But what is the argument leading to? Because a woman has a higher chance of dying in a back-alley abortion procedure, I should not oppose the legality of ending innocent human life?
