yeah like how the democrats voted against civil rights.

Wait....

There were significantly more Democrats than Republicans voting against the civil rights act, and it was a faction within the Democrats' ranks that fought tooth and nail to prevent the act from passing. Arguably, without the opposition from southern Democrats, legislation similar to the civil rights act would have passed much earlier than 1964, potentially a full decade or so.

Yes yes, I know, Nixon, southern strategy and so on and forth... doesnt change the fact that the main obstacle standing in the way of civl rights legislation were Democrats.

I like how you say yes yes I know but then pretend as though you've made a meaningful contribution. You guys do this a lot, when the conclusion is uncomfortable for republicans you start nitpicking. My point was obvious and irrefutable, so you have to go after the minor aspects.

The Democratic president with the majority of democratic politicians as a whole past of the Civil Rights Act and then cut loose the Democrats who voted against it. And then immediately after Republicans started the southern strategy. Nitpick all you want but that's what happened

It was a bipartisan coalition which passed the civil rights act. Look at the vote tallies, without Republican crossover support, the pro-Civil Rights Act Democrats had no majority in either the House or the Senate.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Civil_Rights_Act_of_1964#House_of_Representatives

----------

Yea-Nays:

The original House version:

Democratic Party: 152–96 (61–39%)
Republican Party: 138–34 (80–20%)

Cloture in the Senate:[25]

Democratic Party: 44–23 (66–34%)
Republican Party: 27–6 (82–18%)

The Senate version:

Democratic Party: 46–21 (69–31%)
Republican Party: 27–6 (82–18%)

The Senate version, voted on by the House:

Democratic Party: 153–91 (63–37%)
Republican Party: 136–35 (80–20%)

------

And let's not forget that the spirited effort of the Republican predecessor to the Kennedy/Johnson administration was crucial for desegregation efforts and for giving the civil rights movement more momentum. At the end of the day, Democrats simply dont deserve sole praise for the Civil Rights Act. They were just as much a part of the problem as they were a part of the solution.

Senator Robert Byrd (D) who was in the kkk was never dropped or cut loose by the Democrats. After filibustering what would become the Civil Rights Act of 1964 he spent the next decades mentoring Hillary “black superpredators” Crime Bill Clinton, being buddy with the author of said crime bill Joe Biden (D) - who also gave his eulogy, and being proclaimed by (D)s as being their ‘conscience of the Senate’

it’s always a laugh watching southern privileged lefties/democrats attempt to re-write history

Byrd renounced his KKK membership and spent the latter half of his life actively fighting them.

Meanwhile you vote for impotent cuck Trump who can't take McConnel's wiener out of his mouth long enough to get better stimulus checks
