Russian propaganda has been hammering Western societies and governments for their shortcomings, and there are plenty. This is clearly an attempt at undermining trust and support for Western mainstream parties/governments/politics. The big fallacy they fell for was to assume that everyone who's receptive to these attacks and turned on their own government would automatically side with Russia in this conflict.

The West being weak, corrupt, woke or whatever else does not imply that Russia is strong, less corrupt or offering a more attractive societal model. And if there's a country that's in no position to blast others for the shady dealings of their elites, it is Russia.

People in Asia, South America, Africa cheer for Russia because the west for a very long time has dictated and talked down to the rest of the world. This unilateral "we set the rules" while you lesser people comply is why you see so many normal people in some of these places hating on the US and the west. Doesn't really have much to do with propaganda from Russia really.

From what I can tell, these unaffiliated countries just want to minimize the economic impact on themselves, and I can't blame them, particularly after covid. In the case of India, they also have a decades-long military cooperation with Russia, their defense hinges on supplies and technology transfer from Russia. These countries are clearly saying "this is your war, leave us alone", so it is pushback against the West's economic war and the sanctions - but I wouldn't call it pushback against the West itself.

UN voting patterns/Twitter, and so on. Cheering may be a strong word but many of these places have no interest in supporting the west that's quiet evident tbh.
