You're talking about things that happened several decades ago. Technology has changed DRASTICALLY since then including the nuclear triad. Russia has had nuclear armed submarines within miles from our coast and we just have to pray they don't fire. We do the same thing and we've learned to live like that for decades.

As for Cuba, the only reason we still have sanctions is because of the electoral politics of Florida (it's a swing state and Cuban Americans who fled Communism are the most important voting bloc there).

But that doesn't answer your the question why America doesn't care if Russians put Nukes in Nicaragua.
In my opinion of course they care.

It will be naive to think that they don't. I am just pointing out in a whimsical manner as to why the Americans wouldn't care because as a matter of fact why would the Russians put Nukes over there now.

It does answer the question. Technology has changed enough that missiles stationed near the US border don't increase the threat that the Russians pose to us. If I have the ability to sit right outside your apartment and shoot you with a gun, does it really matter if I give the old lady a block away a gun?

The only reason people bring these examples up is to try and justify Russia's twisted behavior. The world has changed and everyone needs to recalibrate their responses appropriately.

What you said is correct in regards to Technology as we have hyper-sonic missiles etc etc etc. But it doesn't take away the potential devastation it can cause.
I think a fair number of people will believe that Nicaragua having Nukes aiming at the US with the possible intent to cause mass destruction in whatever circumstance it might be will trigger a response from the government sooner than later.

Hypothetically speaking.

At best, we would have some sort of diplomatic response but we certainly wouldn't have a military response because there wouldn't a military threat. I could see certain politicians crying about how Biden is making America look weak but that's about it. In terms of Nicaraguan foreign policy, we need to focus more on making it livable so we have less illegal immigrants. Their alignment with Russia isn't particularly relevant.

That won't happen. If it happen it would have happened long time back by helping South and Central America "livable".
It won't happen now because China is making her way into both Central and South America.

The US will make her move soon, but as of now the focus is in Ukraine and Russia.

Anyways for anyone who thinks China will help Russia militarily , China will not.
The Chinese are having headaches ever since the " special military operation "

Here is part of the reason why.

I 100% agree that this is a pain in the ass for China (just like NK is!)

China engaging in South and Central America is a huge miss in American foreign policy. Had we made the investments there and apologized for all the shit that we did over the years, we'd be MUCH better off. We'd have more economic diversity, less illegal immigration, less drugs coming to America, etc. Unlike Russia, we won't bomb the shit out of them though. We've....matured since the 80s haha.

Look at the temper tantrum we had when some irrelevant island country like Solomon Islands wanted to be friendly with China. We 100% care when countries align themselves with our enemies.

1. LOL at the "temper tantrum" characterization.
2. The Solomon islands certainly aren't irrelevant. There's a reason why we set up the following with other Pacific Island countries: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compact_of_Free_Association
3. I never said that we don't care about alignment. I said that nuclear weapons close to US soil wouldn't be concerning from a security standpoint (for obvious reasons).

At this point of moment, I actually think the Chinese might be sending money via third parties to both Russia and Ukraine for whatever they need.
