Remember all the media buzz that he was getting as soon as he announced his candidacy? Remember the huge surge in donations that he immediately got, enough for him to stay in the race well into the primary season?
Imho, the big money donors of the Democratic party knew that Biden was a doubtful candidate, so they pushed a young, fresh, articulate guy into the race as a backup who will pick up the mantle of the "moderate lane" if Biden falters.

Imho, Buttigieg was deliberately pushed from obscurity so that there is at least one "clean", presentable guy in the race who can formulate a straight sentence and who's neither a socialist nor a geriatric, child-sniffing gaffe-machine. On top, Buttigieg is appealing to the same college-educated whites who propelled Warren, therefore, his ascent is directly cutting into her support. From the pov of the Democratic donor class, this is yet another very welcome development.

he's the most sane in terms of policy so far too, outside of Yang. Biden has no policy other than 'the Obama days', and Warren and Sanders are trying to outfreebie each other, while Steyer and Bloomberg will try to outspend each other (Bloomberg easily can win that side matchup). but yeah Buttigieg is the donor classes' dream candidate thus far.

The thing is, Buttigieg has already made several really bad policy proposals as well, for example abolishing the EC. His policies are less offensive than those of most other dem candidates, but I dont really trust him in this regard.

I think your timeline is a little off there. He's a known commodity in Indiana politics because ran for state treasurer and is mayor of a top 5 largest city in Indiana. He built a national profile when he ran for chair of the DNC but he really didn't rake in the money until he did his media blitz back in March/April. I don't think he was deliberately pushed from obscurity, rather, I think donors are seeing that he's resonating with actual people and they want to help him out.

I don't understand why we give such radical people a voice. To make ourselves feel better or something? It's really weird.

if someone trips walking past a restaurant everyone, even the Pope if he's there eating with Greta Thunberg, laugh at that person.

coastal poly-amorous LGBTQA+BBQ types are essentially tripping constantly everywhere they go.

No, that gives them a voice. They should be ignored.

so should we all ignore when someone trips and falls?

my point was that it's human nature to point and laugh at the oddballs of society.

these oddballs confuse the attention they get for a positive thing. and the more they talk the more they talk themselves down into the fringe tertiary zones of society where they belong. the more we listen to radical people the less effect they have. they're heard more, but are we really hearing them? naam sayin?

The issue is that people are so stupid that they don't think of them as oddballs. They think of them as representative of the "other." Every rural person thinks CA is a bunch of homeless people shitting in the streets and every urban person thinks that everyone in Alabama is violently racist.

I dont know if he's a good candidate. Looking good next to creepy uncle Joe, Pocahontas and Comrade Bernie doesnt exactly tell us too much about a candidate other than that he doesnt have glaring weaknesses.
At the end of the day, Buttigieg is more or less a "white Obama". But what made Obama so uniquely strong was his appeal to both parts of the 'Obama coalition', to college-educated white liberals and to African Americans/poc in general.

Buttigieg has strong appeal with college-educated whites, they're his base, but he doesnt resonate with blacks so far, not at all. He'd probably stand no chance in Florida, and I dont know if a prim and proper son of professors with Ivy League education and the corresponding habitus would really resonate that well with disgruntled workers in Michigan or western Pennsylvania.

He's smart and savvy and has plenty of time to turn things around, but as it stands right now, I dont know if he would really make for a stronger candidate than Biden.

i dont see their own jaded self image as a problem, persay, for anyone but them. we all know the guy who's convinced they're hilarious. or the idiot who's convinced they're the only genius in the room. they get more eyerolls and lip service than actual results.

like in this case, bunch of Vox backpage or worse idiots write "is Pete gay enough" articles, and mainstream slaps it down with a "yes he is and so am i".

the Green New Deal was a joke, and its brought no legislation. Most of Trumps most radical policies havent been realized at all. etc.

i think it boils down to being annoyed or amused. i chose amusement.
