You're arguing that being a cop is so dangerous that they'll just give up. I don't think ANYONE wants to have people who give up that easily on the police force. Having those personalities culled is a great thing for society.
That is separate from the issue of whether or not police killings are a problem in this country. I don't necessarily disagree with your logic there but democracy can be irrational. Personally, I have extremely high standards for people in authority. We should want cops, teachers, politicians, etc. to be impeccable. We have far too many dirtbags in government positions.
Exactly. Cops are entrusted to carry out state sanctioned violence and to potentially make use of deadly force - we should definitely hold them to a higher standard than some random street thugs.
Chauvin's utter disregard for the life and well-being of a fellow human was indeed more befitting of a lawless street thug than a police officer. Would he have been found guilty of 2nd degree murder if the case had been less high profile and the pressure on the jury not as huge? Probably not. So yes, by the standards of the jurisprudence in the country, this verdict falls on the tougher side of things - but it would be wrong to imply or infer that Chauvin is a sacrificial lamb or a man who was done wrong - he 100% deserves to be found guilty of 2nd degree murder and 100% deserves whatever sentence is coming his way.
