Society needs a minimum conception of framework to succeed. The problem is that government has recklessly spent and cut taxes over the last thirty-five years, and not that it has spent on social programs or that it has taxed.
If you need compelling reasoning, revisit the reasoning behind why most of these social programs were enacted. Do you want to go back to the days where we had a few super-super wealthy individuals and 50-60% of the elderly (people over 60) population was homeless?
To be frank, the real drain is Medicare. The average Medicare recipient exhausts everything they put into Medicare over their life within their first 2 years on Medicare.
