I think its reasonable to say that a state actor sabotaged the pipelines and its also reasonable to say we can't know for certain which state actor at this point.
There are plausible motives for Russia and the US alike, but also for China, and for certain EU states.

Bear in mind that with Russia's history of reciprocal retaliation, if they perceive that the west sabotaged Nord Stream, they could escalate by sabotaging the Norwegian-Polish Baltic pipeline or other such targets. And considering the baltic pipe is right on top of nord stream near bornholm where these leaks are, that's sure a possibility

The goal here is to force the EU to rely entirely on America by stopping them from trading with Russia and China, and to hoover up EU industrial capacity which is already objectively happening.

It's been going on for years, this is just an abrupt acceleration of the dynamic.


Perhaps "goal of" would be better than "attempts at", since peaceful reunification isn't an event so much as an ongoing process.

I agree that you can find motives for all of them.
But from my point of view the risk/gain ratio for US or EU is way too high to perform such an act. They'd literaly risk the foundation of NATO/EU by attacking an ally to destroy a pipeline that doesn't transport gas currently. The US probably has more leverages to prevent the pipeline from opening again.
I also don't see any reason for china doing this.

After my process of elimination it just leaves Russia, whatever their intentions are. I mean, they are basically at cold war with the west.
