NATO's reason for existing is to destroy Russia. That's always been it's major goal. That's why it was created, why it was staffed with a bunch of former Third Reich officers, why it continued to expand towards Russia.

To Russia, the destruction of Libya was a warning that NATO was still an aggressive danger, not just a scheme for selling overpriced American weapons platforms.

We don't have to debate in hypotheticals here, the second Iraq war is a real world example of major NATO states refusing allegiance to a US-led war. France, Germany, Canada, Norway, Belgium and Greece all stayed out of the conflict, as did the non-NATO allies Israel, Ireland, Austria and New Zealand. Major NATO members Turkey and Spain withdrew their troops very soon, before Iraq had even descended into chaos.
