The whole purpose of a debate and discussion to my mind is to air views and grow a better understanding of a position, and refine/mature your own view/thoughts of a situation. You do not need a consensus - in fact its better if there are a variety of opposing views in such a discussion, as is the case in this thread. It is normal for opposing positions to clash but there is no need for personal attacks provided everyone approaches the debate from a mature and objective standpoint. The ability to agree on what you can agree on and accept what you cant agree on (i.e. to compromise) is a skill. some people have it and some dont. For this and a variety of other reasons some people are simply not suitable for debates.

I believe that I also lied to myself and this thread, so my apologies - i believe around page 200 i had a similar conversation with Fender and stated at the time I would not respond to him again. So, I am sorry to Ferdia and everyone else in this thread for responding to Fender, I won't respond again. no 3rd time !!
