some comments here:
1. While it is true that Ukraine shelled its own people for years, one should not deny that Russia has also committed atrocities.
2. Personal attacks due to a difference in view is crass and against this sites terms of service. i.e. you could be warned, or banned. therefore recommend you ease off on the personal attacks. While I have said the same to those that refer to Russians as Orc's (they are not Orc's ok people) nevertheless it persists. As this is a western website a degree of latitude is expected, provided it does not get toooo out of hand. (we dont live in an ideal world).
3. The No rape/torture comments conflict with human history and what we have already heard about over the last few months - committed by both sides.
4. There is nothing in the current narrative to suggest Ukraine would cease to exist as a country, not sure where you are getting that from, its outside of logic.
1. And what atrocities has Russia committed? The vast majority of their strikes solely target Ukrainian military personnel, and whatever infrastructure they are using. It's not Russia's fault that Ukrainian soldiers regularly use schools and hospitals as firing points, training centers and bases.
2. I don't mean to flame but I will try to keep it in check in the future.
3. There is an obvious difference between the Russian and Ukrainian side when it comes to torture/rape. The Ukrainian side tortures 99% of prisoners and anyone in their country accused of being pro-Russian, and executes some of them - but not all. Reports of rape carried out by Ukrainian soldiers against female prisoners & civilians where they have free reign is also extremely common.
The Russian side on the other hand typically does not torture PoW's or civilians because they want Ukrainian army soldiers to feel comfortable surrendering. It's easier to capture someone than to kill them, and it saves lives. As for rape, it could happen but if it did this would be a rogue soldier who would face a court martial and removal from the military if they were caught. Where as Ukrainian soldiers are rarely punished for the same thing.
4. Russia already controls some 15-20% of Ukrainian territory. If there is no peace agreement then the chance that Russia will just keep biting off more territory increases exponentially. Russia has no reason to not keep going anymore, since the west has gone full-blown hands off in supporting the Ukrainian military. Yesterday Shoigu said that there are NATO commanders in Kiev that have an ops room where they control the Ukrainian military. Most likely, this is true. There can be no doubt that it is true. The Ukrainian army is nothing more than a puppet that is fully under the command of NATO. Therefore, Russia will need to keep taking territory to get rid of this threat for good. They have more manpower and resources than Ukraine does even with western backing, that's just how it is.
And so Russia will keep going. Ukraine will be left with scraps if this goes on another 3-4 years. That's just how it is.
