The way to deal with aggressive actors on the world stage is with strength and unity among allies. Weakness simply invites more malign actions.

Of course, it's worth considering whether the isolationists simply don't have the same values as the rest of us. Protecting the rules-based global order, protecting Ukraine's sovereignty and their democracy, deterring Chinese aggression towards their neighbors, preventing Russia from turning back the clock on the spread of democracy in Eastern Europe the last few decades, etc etc. These are things that the Trumpists don't care much about, so it kind of makes sense for them to oppose any consequences when Russia starts a war in Europe.

They went from 30 car models to 2 models without emission control or basic safety features.

They also went from a decent airline industry to cannibalizing parts from other jets and a total shut down within a year.

Russia has energy and that's basically all. Which is important, but without access to high tech industries and specialized trade partners you can't survive on energy alone.
