I think the escalation that people worry about is what Russia will do next in the face of Western Pressure. you dont have to agree with me on this, but this is the main question in my, and others, thoughts.
Russia isn't going to be able to conquer Ukraine without the West's at least tacit collusion. I feel like a lot of Americans are wishing to collude with Russia against Ukraine right now, and most of those people are supportive of the president who was a Russian asset for four years.
Moldova, Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania are all on the menu, and the plan had half of Poland marked off as theirs. The president of Belarus put it the plans on state television.
This isn't just Ukraine, if they conquer Ukraine this war continues farther into Europe. When I grew up there was an East and West Germany. Some people want the Stasi here it seems.
Western pressure is pretty minor compared to how much pressure we can put on someone. The pressure now is "you have to feed yourself but we still buy oil."
Putin only benefits from strife in the world, why he causes so much. Peace is bad for him because Russia's only export is oil and oil is more valuable during large conflicts.
